Why Your SpaPilot Device May Go Offline
This article explains why a SpaPilot device may occasionally lose its Wi-Fi connection and provides practical steps to improve connection stability. A stable Wi-Fi connection is important for features such as remote control, electricity price updates, and automated heating plans.
What “Offline” Means
If your SpaPilot device shows Offline in the app, it means the device is temporarily unable to communicate with the SpaPilot cloud service.
Your spa will continue to operate normally, but some features may be unavailable until the connection is restored.
Common Causes of Wi-Fi Connection Drops
Several factors can affect Wi-Fi stability around spas.
Weak Wi-Fi Signal
Spa installations are often located outdoors or inside spa cabinets, which can reduce Wi-Fi signal strength.
If the router is too far away, the signal may become unstable.
Recommended solution
-
Place the router closer to the spa area
-
Install a Wi-Fi extender if needed
Technical note
For a stable connection, the Wi-Fi signal strength should ideally be stronger than -75 dBm.
Signals weaker than -75 dBm may cause unstable connections or intermittent offline status.
Metal Cabinets or Equipment Compartments
SpaPilot is often installed inside the spa cabinet where metal panels, pumps, and electronics can block wireless signals.
Recommended solution
-
Place the device where the Wi-Fi signal is strongest
-
Avoid placing the device directly behind metal panels
Mesh Wi-Fi Networks
Some mesh networks automatically move devices between access points.
This can occasionally cause IoT devices to disconnect or reconnect frequently.
Recommended solution
-
Connect SpaPilot to the access point closest to the spa
-
If possible, temporarily test with a single access point
Network Interference
Other wireless devices can interfere with Wi-Fi signals, including:
-
microwaves
-
cordless phones
-
nearby Wi-Fi networks
Changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router can sometimes improve stability.
Router Configuration
SpaPilot devices require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks under the same name, connection stability may vary depending on router configuration.
Recommended solution
Ensure that the 2.4 GHz network is available and functioning properly.
Steps to Improve Connection Stability
If your device frequently goes offline, try the following:
-
Confirm the spa area has a strong Wi-Fi signal.
-
Restart the SpaPilot device by turning the spa power off and on.
-
Verify that your router is functioning normally.
-
Check that your Wi-Fi network uses the 2.4 GHz band.
-
Move the router or add a Wi-Fi extender if necessary
When to Contact Support
If the device still disconnects frequently after these steps, please contact SpaPilot support.
Providing the following information will help us investigate faster:
-
Wi-Fi signal strength
-
spa model and controller type
-
approximate distance to the router
Summary
Most Wi-Fi connection issues are related to signal strength or network configuration.
Ensuring a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal near the spa will help maintain reliable communication with your SpaPilot device.
