Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection Issues

This article explains common reasons why a SpaPilot device may occasionally lose its Wi-Fi connection and provides practical steps to improve connection stability. A stable Wi-Fi connection is important for features such as remote control, electricity price updates, and automated heating plans.

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection Issues

1. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength

A weak Wi-Fi signal is the most common reason for connection drops.

Spa installations are often located outdoors or inside spa cabinets where the signal may be weaker.

For stable operation:

Wi-Fi signal strength should ideally be stronger than -75 dBm.

Signals weaker than -75 dBm may result in unstable connectivity.

Possible solutions:

  • move the router closer to the spa

  • install a Wi-Fi extender

  • test signal strength near the spa

2. Metal Cabinets and Equipment Compartments

SpaPilot is often installed inside the spa cabinet. Metal panels and electrical equipment can reduce wireless signal strength.

If possible:

  • avoid placing the device directly behind metal panels

  • ensure the Wi-Fi signal can reach the installation location

3. Mesh Wi-Fi Networks

Some mesh networks automatically move devices between access points.

IoT devices may occasionally reconnect when switching between nodes.

If you experience instability:

  • try connecting to a single access point

  • ensure the spa connects to the nearest node

4. Restart the Device

Restarting the spa can refresh the device connection.

To do this:

  1. Turn off power to the spa

  2. Wait about 10 seconds

  3. Turn power back on

The SpaPilot device will reconnect automatically once the spa starts.

5. Check Your Router

Ensure your router is functioning properly.

Things to check:

  • other devices connect normally

  • the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is active

  • router firmware is up to date

SpaPilot devices require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

6. Environmental Interference

Other electronic devices or physical obstacles can interfere with Wi-Fi signals.

Possible sources include:

  • thick walls

  • nearby Wi-Fi networks

  • electronic equipment

Changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router can sometimes improve stability.

Important Installation Note

SpaPilot does not have an official IP rating and should always be installed in a dry and protected location.

If installed outside the spa cabinet, the device should be placed inside a protective enclosure.

When to Contact Support

If the device continues to go offline frequently, please contact SpaPilot support.

Providing the following information will help us diagnose the issue faster:

  • Wi-Fi signal strength

  • approximate distance to the router

  • spa model and controller type

Summary

Most Wi-Fi connection issues are caused by:

  • weak signal strength

  • spa cabinet placement

  • network configuration

Ensuring a strong Wi-Fi signal near the spa will significantly improve connection stability.
